Tables to data[]

I was thinking of adding more .2da data to the wiki (in fact, I already have the BioWare files converted to wiki format), but I was looking to standardize the format first. One thing I noticed that I can do is that I can have a template generate a link from a subpage (e.g. appearance.2da/data) to the main page (e.g. appearance.2da), but I do not see how to do the same thing for a parenthetical suffix (e.g. appearance.2da (data)). So I was going to convert the existing "(table)" articles to "data" subpages. This will let me copy-and-paste data into the wiki, and the links will be generated for me. Any thoughts on this? I've already changed appearance.2da and [[appearance.2da/data]] to demonstrate what I plan to do for the other existing articles. --The Krit 06:55, September 11, 2010 (UTC) (Dewiki dead link. --The Krit 20:00, October 7, 2010 (UTC))

  • Silly me. My program can have the name of the .2da available when generating the wiki text, so that is not an issue. Also, looking at the new name, it looks rather cramped to have no spaces in "appearance.2da/data", so now I am thinking that the parenthesized suffix is better. However, I am still inclined to change "table" to "data" as "data" seems a better description. --The Krit 21:39, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • Or maybe change "(table)" to "(contents)" to avoid "computer-geek" terminology. --The Krit 20:01, October 7, 2010 (UTC)

Oh, and would it make sense to swap the names of the templates? Right now, the template {{2da data}} goes in the article covering the use and columns and links to the data, while {{2da file}} goes in the article with the data and links to the article covering the file use and columns. So currently, they are named for what they link to; should they instead be named for where they are used? (I do not know at the moment -- maybe after I take a break it will be clearer.) --The Krit 07:03, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
