* Favored enemy feats are linked to the class that selected them. * Game documentation implies that the number of times favored enemy is offered corresponds with the bonus, but the bonuses are independent of the number of favored enemies. The bonus improves by +1 every fifth level, not for every favored enemy feat. Class levels do not stack for this; the bonus against favored enemies chosen on ranger levels depends on ranger level, while the bonus against favored enemies chosen on Harper levels depends on Harper level.

* Game documentation implies that the number of times favored enemy is offered corresponds with the bonus; however, in order for the player to select a race to be a favored enemy the feat was made a bonus feat, rather than a class feat. This means that it is possible for both rangers and Harper scouts to have fewer favored enemies feats than the bonus (by taking other bonus feats instead), but at pre-[[epic character|epic]] levels the alternatives are limited to curse song for the Harper scout and greater spell focus for the ranger. In epic levels, rangers are offered other bonus feats every three epic levels which can be used to increase the number of favored enemies beyond the bonus.

Favored enemy

Type of feat: class (given based on class levels)
Prerequisite: ranger, Harper scout 1

Specifics: The character gains a +1 bonus to any damage delivered to his favored enemy. He also receives a +1 bonus on listen, spot, and taunt checks against the favored enemy. These bonuses improve by +1 for every 5 levels that the ranger gains, but they do not improve for the Harper.

Use: automatic. The ranger may choose additional favored enemies every 5 levels. A Harper scout only chooses one more at level 5.

class level 1 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40
bonus +1 +2 +3 +4 +5 +6 +7 +8 +9

Notes

  • When a favored enemy is gained, the player selects a race to be that favored enemy. There are 24 favored enemy races available; of the 25 standard races, only ooze cannot be selected.
  • Favored enemies are implemented as bonus feats. Thus a favored enemy can be chosen whenever the class in question gets a bonus feat, and any bonus feat (whose prerequisites are met) can be chosen whenever a class is said to choose an additional favored enemy. (However, the non-epic alternatives consist solely of curse song for the Harper scout and greater spell focus for the ranger.)
  • Game documentation implies that the number of times favored enemy is offered corresponds with the bonus, but the bonuses are independent of the number of favored enemies. The bonus improves by +1 every fifth level, not for every favored enemy feat. Class levels do not stack for this; the bonus against favored enemies chosen on ranger levels depends on ranger level, while the bonus against favored enemies chosen on Harper levels depends on Harper level.
    • Harper scout bonuses do improve to +2 at Harper scout level 5, despite the feat's description.
    • Non-player characters will use their full hit dice to determine the bonus, rather than a particular class level.
  • In the pen and paper (3.0) version, any creature immune to critical hits is also immune to the damage bonus from this feat. However, NWN does not have this limitation.
