Intelligence determines how well your character learns and reasons. Intelligence is important for wizards because it affects how many spells they can cast, how hard their spells are to resist, and how powerful their spells can be. It is also important for any character who wants to have a strong assortment of skills, however increasing your intelligence will not grant bonus skill points retroactively.

Note: Sorcerers do not use intelligence for any of their spellcasting — charisma is used instead.

Warning: In the original campaign and some user modules, an intelligence lower than 9 means that your character is unable to speak properly.

Further information

  • Any creature that can think, learn, or remember has at least 1 point of Intelligence.
  • Having a score of 0 means that the character cannot think and is unconscious in a coma-like stupor, helpless.
  • A creature with no intelligence score is an automaton (i.e., a Construct), operating on simple instincts or programmed instructions. It is immune to all mind-influencing effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns and morale effects) and automatically fails Intelligence checks.
  • Drinking alcohol reduces your Intelligence score in game (in PnP it reduces your Dexterity and Wisdom).
