Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition is a re-release of Neverwinter Nights with enhancements beyond patch 1.69 of the original game. It is developed by Beamdog and published by Skybound Games. The game was released on 27 March 2018 for PC, Macintosh, and Linux, 29 October 2018 for Android, 3 December 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, and 12 August 2020 for iOS.

It includes all the original campaigns (Wailing Death, Shadows of Undrentide, Hordes of the Underdark) and expansion pack content, and also the Kingmaker, ShadowGuard, Witch's Wake modules, access to fan favourite Community modules as well as paid-for DLC Premium Modules.

Since 2018, Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition replaced the Neverwinter Nights Diamond release of the game on Steam (which includes achievements) and GOG (although GOG bundles the enhanced version with the original).

Upgrades past the original release of the game include:

  • Beamdog server listing that replaced the original GameSpy listing which was shut down and cannot be used
  • Bugfiixes and optimisations, as well as moving the engine to 64bit
  • Graphical improvements built upon moving to OpenGL, including:
    • Better resolution support, including windowed and borderless modes
    • UI scaling up to x4 for UI and mouse for full 4K support
    • Two new fonts added, replacing the old fonts
    • Facelifts for the original campaigns and DLC for certain tilesets
    • V-Sync support including adaptive mode for G-Sync/FreeSync)
    • Keyholing, HDR Bloom, Ambient Occlusion, High Contrast, Vibrance, Sharpen, Toon and Water shaders
  • A new campaign menu with a brand new menu select screen has also been introduced, along with a fullscreen title screen menu.
  • Quality of life improvements:
    • Combat Sticky Modes allow modes like Power Attack to remain on even if the current target is killed or movement is undertaken
    • Spells now have visible markers for casting spells showing their areas of effect
    • Spellbooks and class lists can be sorted
    • Tab can be double tapped to remain on (highlighting intractable objects)
    • Built in camera limit remover
  • Some gameplay fixes and small balance changes, such as for Death attack, Dispel Magic, Circle Kick, Stunning Fist, Uncanny Dodge, polymorph, area of effect spells and more.
  • NWsync to allow direct downloads in the client for singleplayer modules and persistent world servers
  • The ability to have up to eight character classes on a character has also been introduced, but this is not active for all modules by default (see ruleset.2da).

There are large amounts of upgrades for the Aurora Toolset which has multi-tab area opening, conversation scriptable parameters and various bugfixes, and custom content, which introduce new hundreds of new scripting functions such as new object visual transformations, effects, events, sqlite, and an entirely new scriptable GUI system. There are dozens of extended .2da options, with lots of previously hardcoded things made accessible or extended such as new damage types, saving throw types, animation slots, programmed visual effects, weather and the ability to create new spellcasting classes. Custom content can also inject custom races more easily into the updated character creation menu.

The Enhanced Edition release on consoles was the first time Neverwinter Nights was released on consoles. The PlayStation 4 version has Trophy support and the Xbox One version has Achievements support. None of the console versions include the Aurora Toolset included in the PC version, and custom modules cannot be used in the console version.

The Enhanced Edition release on Android and later iOS was also the first time the game was released for mobile devices. The mobile version, unlike the console version, supports custom content and modules, including most of the features and improvements mentioned above. The Aurora Toolset for creating modules is not available on mobile devices however.
