The Land of Nordock is one of the oldest and most popular NWN persistent worlds. The module was created originally as a "placeholder" world to run on Marc "richterm" Richterm's NWN server for when he wasn't running games for friends, but the world quickly became popular enough that Marc decided to run with it full time.
Today, Nordock is a franchise consisting of several variants of the world hosted on professional level hardware. From 2002 through 2021, hosting was in Texas by Doug "Serverhost" Rhea. In 2022, Joshua "WafflesMcDuff" Goldberg took over as server host based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In the fall of 2002, Marc released the current running version of Nordock to the general public via Neverwinter Vault. Permission was given to all to download, host, hack and reuse Nordock as they saw fit and the public went nuts. Today, one can find Nordock variants all over the globe.
Some new Nordock persistent worlds came to life thanks to Beamdog and its release of Neverwinter Nights Enhanced Edition in 2018. In 2022, with the 20th annivesary of NeverWinter Nights, the DM team for Richterm's Retreat decided it was time to launch an NWN:EE version of Richterm's Retreat Epic.
Meanwhile the original Richterm's Retreat legacy version 1.69 servers (Classic, Epic, and Difficult) will continue to run. Although BioWare stopped support for 1.69 in 2008, there is a community patch available on the vault.
