Roleplay is assuming the persona of a character while in the game and acting out the character's spoken dialogue, actions, emotes, etc. It is like pretending to be someone you are not or someone you can never be.

Roleplaying also entails playing your character according to their alignment and character background. This includes making choices from information that only your character could be aware of, or the opposite of metagaming.

There are many servers where roleplaying is either encouraged or even enforced, which are usually categorized or noted on the server's entry in NWVault or their own website. Reasons for this approach include a greater immersion, replication of the PnP feel of the actual Dungeons & Dragons game, or a personal affinity for the source material.

Principally, roleplaying [[radial menu}actions]] are meant to reinforce gameplay although some see it as diametrically opposed to powergaming which is primarily focused on the most superior character build, combat for the sake of experience points, looting, and "number crunching".
