Holy vs. unholy[]

This spell decription is somewhat unclear to me. Holy Aura gives protections vs evil and Unholy protection vs good? Or is it vice versa? Does anyone have an answer? --81.99.159.66 8 July 2007

Yes, Holy Aura (Aura vs. Evil) gives +4 AC, 25 SR, Immunity to Mind effecting spells, and the damage shield against Evil Creatures. Unholy (Aura vs. Good) gives these benefits against Good creatures. However, if you have both of these up, then any thing that hits you takes damage from the shield twice.--Aez 09:23, 8 July 2007 (PDT)
Actually, I just checked and for some reason, it's the other way around... that's funky.--Aez 23:50, 8 July 2007 (PDT) (that last IP is me)
So... to be clear, "Unholy Aura" protects you from evil NPC/PCs, and "Holy Aura" protects you from good NPCs/PCs? --67.82.127.176 02:47, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
It looks to me (both reading the scripts and testing in-game) as though Aez had it right the first time. Holy aura radiates good, protecting from evil; unholy aura radiates evil, protecting from good. --The Krit 16:59, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Can aura versus alignment be extended?[]

As a (base) 8th level spell I should be able to extend it, yes? When I try, the version that appears in the radial menu doesn't have the little "extended" marker. If I have both extended and plain versions memorised, only the plain versions appear in the radial menu --124.189.100.95 22 May 2008

Ah -- found it -- the extended version mark only appears on the sub-sub-part of the radial menu ...but if you have both extended AND normal versions of the spell memorised you can only get to the normal versions via the radial menu --124.189.100.95 22 May 2008
The suppression of metamagic versions of spells in the level 7-8-9 submenu when a non-metamagic version is also there might be a reason for the class-specific "metamagic" menu (at the same level as "cleric spells", located off the "cast spell" radial). --The Krit 17:15, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Sounds like this spell is buggy[]

"If someone has both the holy and unholy auras up at the same time, then anyone who hits that character — regardless of their alignment — will take 6 + 1d8 divine damage (for the holy aura) as well as 6 + 1d8 negative energy damage (for the unholy aura)."

This shouldn't be true. Neither aura alone affects neutral alignment creatures, therefore why should both combined affect them? Also, the statement is worded to suggest that when both are up, anyone will take both kinds of damage, but why should an evil creature be affected by the unholy aura portion? --216.145.70.238 04:36, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

  • I have not seen this aspect in action, but from what I've seen reported, you have accurately grasped the situation. --The Krit 13:16, January 29, 2010 (UTC)
