What's the DC on the dispell? - Flel 06:33, 15 May 2006 (PDT)
- It is not very good. Like all items that use spell like abilities it uses the default lowest level to cast the spell. So dispel magic being a 3rd level spell would require a 5th level mage. From the NWNWiki description of dispell magic
- This spell attempts to strip all magical effects from a single target. It can also target a group of creatures, attempting to remove the most powerful spell effect from each creature. To remove an effect, the caster makes a dispel check of 1d20 +1 per caster level (to a maximum of +10) against a DC of 11 + the spell effect's caster level
- So 5 + d20.
- Kind of bit silly spell as it is quite specifically targeting only Quarter Staves in NWN as Mage Staves are a different item. It is an easy modification to make to change. However yet even then for a high level spell it is fairly impotent due to the dc of stuff you will be facing at that level. (14 Level > No Effect) Leaving you with a +4 weapon that few use. - That's a real pitty considering the Holy Avenger item property strips everything over time - Flel 12:15, 17 May 2006 (PDT)
- The script for blackstaff hasn't been changed as of the release of HotU. Thus I think it has always been a level 16 (capped at 10) dispel not a level 5. I have tested and this is currently the case. As it could happen that the item property was redefined by a patch I cannot say for certain that it has always been this way. Spell resistance?[]
At first the SR rating on this spell had me confused until I realized it applied to the dispel action in use rather than the process of casting the Blackstaff spell on a target creature. However, the article for dispel magic has adjusted the SR rating from what the game reports to what the engine actually implements. So, should the SR for this article be modified in a similar fashion? (Or... perhaps the dispel magic version used by the staff is a custom version that checks for SR, though, and in that case, I am unable to evaluate that eventuality.) --Iconclast 21:56, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
- SR applies to neither. There is no SR to stop any dispelling spell or item property. Further, the target does not make an SR check to prevent the item property addition. As far as dispelling the DC is what was shown to be off, no SR is ever involved. I have updated the article. WhiZard 22:38, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
