Uses per day[]

The feat description states that the feat can be used 1x/day only but this is not true. Everytime the character is struck by a potentially lethal blow, he makes a reflex saving throw and if successful, he takes only half damage.

Just made a test: Level 10 rogue with 22 hitpoints, very high reflex saves, defensive roll, regeneration+24 (so all HP are restored within 1 round), immunity to critical hits (so I could control the damage taken by my rogue) vs. a very strong level 5 fighter (so 1 attack/round only) using a whip doing 30+1d2 damage with a single hit. Every round my rogue made a reflex save for half damage. He died only when rolling a '1' (if 'Saving Throw Automatic Failure On 1' is activated). --Kamiryn 10:54, 7 Dec 2005 (PST)

"Potentially lethal blow"[]

What is defined by a "potentially lethal blow"? GhostNWN 16:59, 11 February 2006 (PST)

  • "Potentially lethal blow" sounds like any attack that can do enough damage to bring a PC with defensive roll down to zero hp. Harleyquin 17:27, 11 February 2006 (PST)
  • Physical damage (after the usual reductions) is compared to the target's hit points. So this blow should always kill if the save is failed; but not all blows that would kill are respected by this feat. WhiZard (talk) 19:32, March 8, 2013 (UTC)

Ranged?[]

So both melee and ranged or just melee? --67.2.18.186 01:19, 8 January 2012

  • Both melee and ranged attacks can trigger this. WhiZard (talk) 19:28, March 8, 2013 (UTC)

Devastating?[]

Does this feat trigger vs. Devastating Critical? Theophilus Fist (talk) 04:43, March 7, 2016 (UTC)

  • Presumably the feat triggers if the damage from the devastating critical is enough to kill, which would use up your one use per day. But then even if you were successful on the defensive roll, you would still die if you fail the save vs. dev crit (that death is not based on damage, so there is nothing to cut in half). In the end it doesn't matter much if it triggers or not. --The Krit (talk) 02:00, March 8, 2016 (UTC)
