Attack of opportunity triggers flat-footedness[]

Attack of Opportunity triggers flat-footedness.

Example: My PC is surrounded by 3 NPCs, one of them a Rogue. A 4th joins in, my PC automatically is given an Attack of Opportunity. As this happens, the Rogue's next attack is a sneak attack.

I'm willing to bet this is not how bioware intended it to work. -- Eetheart 21:41, 30 May 2017‎ (UTC)

  • That is the correct behavior, albeit unpleasant, and there is no connection to flat-footedness. Sneak attack lists three things that can turn an attack into a sneak attack: the target is flat-footed, the target cannot see the attacker, and the target is in combat with someone else. You seem to assume the first of these applies in your situation, but it is the last that applies. When the new combatant ran in, you were granted an attack of opportunity. This puts you in combat with the new arrival, hence attacks by anyone else qualify as sneak attacks. When you next attack the rogue, you return to being in combat with the rogue, denying further sneak attacks from that source. --The Krit (talk) 22:34, May 31, 2017 (UTC)
