Works Differently on my Server

Does anyone know exactly how dispell works now? It doesn't seem to be as described in the manuals or any other source of information I've been able to find, i.e., lesser dispell caster level variable limited to 5 dispell caster level variable limited to 10 greater dispell caster level variable limited to 15

added to constant of 10

versus opposed factor of 11 plus buff's caster level.

I noticed that does not apply on the server I now frequent, and after talking about this with at least one other veteran player, seems to have been changed as well. I've even reviewed the patch summaries but haven't found information on it.

Item caster level

Is there a reason the scroll versions of this spell is cast at level 7, instead of level 9 (the minimum caster level necessary to cast an innate level 5 spell)? That strikes me as an odd choice. And, it really nerfs items like a Rod of Reversal...

Unless I am misunderstanding the spells, there is no reason to use Dispel Magic over Lesser Dispel if the caster level isn't over 5, and there is no reason to use Greater Dispelling over Dispel Magic if the caster level isn't over 10. - MrZork 14:59, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

• Level 7 is the caster level that BioWare decided to give to the standard greater dispelling scroll. Why they did that is anyone's guess. Individual modules can supply scrolls with different caster levels though, so if you're playing an online server, you can request a scroll be made with a higher caster level. Modules (servers) that use hak paks can define any caster level they want for items; those that do not are limited to the two levels defined by BioWare for this spell, namely 7 and 15. --The Krit 19:27, November 17, 2009 (UTC)

Change to DC

It would be nice if someone could confirm the dispel DC change is the same for the other three spells (yes, including Mord's) so we can update those articles plus the main dispel article. Presumably, this would affect the chance for dispelling, not just change the "immune-to-dispel" level. It would be even nicer if someone could pin down when this change occurred. • The dispel DC change affects the other three dispel spells and Holy Avenger. The formula change applies to any dispel that uses EffectDispelMagicAll, EffectDispelMagicBest, or the Holy Avenger item property. I've written about the testing that I did on the ECB Forum .
