Questions Regarding Target and Persistence[]

1] Does Invisibility Purge travel with the caster (Creature)? Or is it anchored to the Area where the caster was where this personal spell was cast?

2] If the script affects an Area, how is is dispelled? Targeting the area? Or by targeting the caster? (I've seen "Invisibility Purge" dispelled from a PC far away from where the spell was originally cast, but I don't know if this actually does anything.)

3] If the script affects an Area, on persistent worlds, it is dispelled if the caster logs off? (I've noticed on many servers that some kinds of spell effects remain, others don't, when this happens.)

4] If the script affects an Area, iIs there any way, other than being affected by the OnEnter even, to determine the boundaries of the Invisibility Purge object?

It seems to me that this spell could be extremely useful, almost overpowered in PvP, if it allows a caster to designate an area where invisibility is purged, and then have a team stay outside it, invisible, ambushing people inside. Especially if the area itself is not affected by dispel, but instead you need to target the specific caster of the original spell. --SteveMaurer 21:05, 22 October 2012‎ (UTC)

  • The spell's range is "personal". That means it targets the caster, not an area. So the affected area moves with the caster, just like the other spells with personal range and a "real" area of effect. (One consequence of this is that "invisibility purge" can be dispelled from a PC far away from where the spell was originally cast. What reason did you have to doubt that message?) As for dispelling areas of effect, that is covered by the first paragraph of Dispel. --The Krit (talk) 01:59, October 23, 2012 (UTC)
  • The reason I doubted it was that there was very strange behavior in seemingly unhooked code when it was tested out on a Persistent World server (not anything I control, so I won't name it). But now, given your explanation, it seems it might be possible that this spell suffers from the "area of effect" bug. Admittedly, it being Colossal, might mean a PC would only rarely end upoutside the AoE, but I think that would also be associated with server lag, which this persistent world (on account of its popularity) is well known for. • Not sure what you mean by "unhooked code", but yeah, all mobile areas of effect are potentially subject to the primary target sometimes managing to leave the area of effect (a.k.a. the mobile AoE bug), particularly if a server is lagging. --The Krit (talk) 00:07, October 25, 2012 (UTC)

Invisibility Purge vs Self Concealment[]

Does Invisibility Purge affect the concealment from Self Concealment? - Empyre 15:27, December 8, 2020 (UTC)

  • I do not see why it would affect self concealment. As I recall, invisibility purge goes after invisibility, not concealment. The point of confusion might be that the purge looks at the source of an effect to determine what to purge. The concealment from improved invisibility comes from an invisibility spell, so it gets purged. Not because it is concealment but because it is part of improved invisibilty. --The Krit (talk) 00:15, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Invisibility Purge and Improved Invisibility[]

I'm playing a ranger with a bard companion. I cast Invisibility Purge and then my companion cast Improved Invisibility on me. I thought I wouldn't be invisible but I am. During ensuing combat, I have 50% concealment active. This appears to contradict what this article says (and the spell's description) since my Invisibility Purge should have made it so that 1] I couldn't become invisible and 2] I couldn't have concealment from Improved Invisibility.

More things I have noticed:

1. If I cast Improved Invisibility followed by Invisibility Purge, my invisibility and concealment is lost.

2. If I go through an area transition with Invisibility Purge and Improved Invisibility active, I keep both.

3. If I reload a save in which I had Improved Invisibility and Invisibility Purge, I lose both invisibility and concealment.

  • (Article updated.) The area transition and save-reload scenarios might be fickle in that sometimes you get one result and sometimes the other. Not sure. In any event, don't focus too much on tracking both the invisibility and the concealment, as there should be no way for the script to remove one without removing the other. It's an all-or-nothing deal. --The Krit (talk) 01:38, 7 October 2021 (UTC)
