DC limits of knock?[]
How are the limits of Knock determined? Is this just a spell check against the lock's DC? Or is it handled like a skill check?
For example, a locked chest that was set @DC 34 was able to be unlocked by a rogue, but not via Knock even after over a dozen castings. Since the spell reports no save or resistance checks, I am reluctant to suspect that the script uses a typical spell check. But if it DOES, would Spell Focus feats and ability modifier expand the "knock-able" DC range of a container? Also, would the caster level or innate level be used? --Iconclast 17:32, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
- The limits are almost what is specified in the article. The spell will not unlock a plot object. It will also not unlock an object with a certain local variable set on it -- I'll add info on that in a moment. However, if the variable is set, you should get floating text feedback of "* Failure! - Door unaffected by magic *". Since you got no feedback, the conclusion is that your locked chest was flagged as plot. In any event, there is no DC involved. --The Krit 17:58, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
- Right you are, TK! It WAS flagged as plot although I have no clue why. All it contains is a low treasure script... possibly just to baffle a player. Thanks for resolving the DC issue and clarifying the method used to distinguish settings. --Iconclast 20:51, August 25, 2010 (UTC)
