Spellcasting Edit

I highly doubt it, but could this feat apply against spellcasting AoO? Only reason I ask is that the article's wording doesn't specify movement-derived AoO. 71.219.136.32 00:20, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

  • What reason should you have to think this only applies to movement-derived AoOs? "A character with this feat has learned to avoid attacks of opportunity more effectively, gaining a +4 dodge bonus to AC against them." Not "attacks of opportunity caused by moving", but "attacks of opportunity". All attacks of opportunity. Hence the first note in this article. This is a good feat for spellcasters. --The Krit 01:31, June 10, 2012 (UTC)
  • I have had a few cases where the spellcaster was caught flat-footed from the AoOs only (while the other attacks during the casting did not render him flatfooted). In this case mobility was also negated. I believe the circumstance that triggered it was that the caster never performed a hostile action to trigger an initiative roll, and thus was assumed out of combat. Defensive awareness Edit

How about casting a spell with Defensive Awareness I from the Dwarven Defender prestige class? Say you cast a heal spell inside melee, become flat-footed and provoke an AoO; will Mobility give you +4 dodge bonus to AC here or not? Its use mentions any condition negating dexterity bonus to AC also negates any dodge bonus, but Defensive Awareness I states dexterity bonus to AC is retained EVEN when flat-footed, and thus by extension, I would assume the dodge bonus to AC from mobility should also be retained since dexterity bonus is not negated. I have not tested this, but it may prevent the issue where caster is assumed out of combat. --86.52.48.101 23:08, December 17, 2013 (UTC)

  • You are asking if a dodge bonus to armor class is kept when flat-footed. The answer is in each of those articles (two of which are linked from this article): NO. Don't get lost in details, and you might find your way to an answer (irrelevant details in your question include: involving a spell that heals, casting a spell, being inside melee, and provoking an AoO). --The Krit (talk) 03:18, December 18, 2013 (UTC)
  • Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. Defensive Awareness does NOT change the situation WhiZard described on June 10, 2012; the dodge bonus to AC from Mobility is still lost. Best (only?) way to avoid that situation must then still be to ensure you've rolled for initiative before casting, and keeping the action queue filled to stay in combat when subsequent attacks hit you. --86.52.48.101 23:19, December 18, 2013 (UTC)
