Layering stoneskin-type spells[]

Can you have a Stoneskin and a Greater Stoneskin "layered" on you at the same time so that when one spell is used up the other one starts picking up incomming damage? Has anyone ever tested this? Terocone 01:39, July 6, 2010 (UTC)

  • I may have tested this in the past, but I don't recall it specifically. The scripts allow both spells to be active simultaneously, so you should be able to "layer" them. Just be aware that only one spell will affect any single hit. So you could get into a situation where the hit that finishes off greater stoneskin (due to the limit on damage absorbed) gets reduced by only 2 points of damage, even though stoneskin is waiting in the wings, so to speak. --The Krit 15:58, July 6, 2010 (UTC)
  • I tested this today. I cast Premonition, Greater Stoneskin and Stoneskin on myself (using sequencers), in that order. First, Premonition blocked 150 damage (as it usually does). Then, once Premonition finished absorbing the 150 damage, Greater Stoneskin kicked in and absorbed 110 damage. Finally, Stoneskin kicked in to absorb 100 damage. So yes, you can cast all three on yourself at once and they will each remain active, though only one will affect any individual attack from an enemy.
An interesting side note is that the order of casting doesn't matter between Premonition and Stoneskin. Even if you cast Stoneskin first, the Premonition damage reduction is used first when blocking damage. I will need to test a bit more, but I assume the ordering (of these spells activating) is Premonition -> Greater Stoneskin -> Stoneskin regardless of which spell was cast first. -- HolyGuardian80 (talk) 00:52, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
  • OK, after a bit more testing, I confirmed that the most effective damage reduction is always used first. So first Premonition, then Greater Stoneskin, then regular Stoneskin. One interesting side note on top of that is that Shadow Shield activates instead of Stoneskin when both are active and the damage is from a weapon source with less than +3 enhancement. So the engine is quite intelligent in how it handles these damage reduction spells. -- HolyGuardian80 (talk) 00:58, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
