Master level[]

I've been wondering, does the "master level" that is mentioned with the familiar level ups, "wizard/sorcerer" levels or character levels? -- 62.45.152.76 April 2007

  • Wizard or sorcerer level is what matters. --The Krit 13:07, 1 April 2007 (PDT)
  • Yes it is wizzard/sorcerer levels.
I had a level 30 something wizzard using the eyeball. Since you lose some health when they die, it was nice to have one that stayed out of melee. (and did have a useful special attack now and then)

I had another character who I had just selected one level of sorcerer for a red dragon disciple requirement. The familiar was useless as it did not grow with my character. --75.6.188.118 November 2007

Unbalanced familiars?[]

There seems to be a heavy difference in the powers and abilities between different familiars, especially in terms of increased levels. The Raven for instance seems utterly pathetic at level 20 compared to other familiars. Is this correct, or are they all roughly balanced? --82.9.224.254 15 January 2009

  • I believe there was an attempt to balance the familiars, but the success of that attempt is open to debate. The eyeball seems to be the only one with a reasonable epic progression, for example, in my opinion. (It is also the only one added with HotU — coincidence?) For your example of the raven, I would guess that what you see is a result of how BioWare rated various powers. Specifically, the poisoned, slowing attack probably got rated as more potent than may actually be the case in the game. Eh, maybe once I finish the animal companions, I'll summarize the differences between the various familiars in the familiar article (and similarly for animal companions). Of course, if someone else wants to do that.... --The Krit 20:29, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
