Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Tynan is a baby the PC encounters during an East Hilltop side-quest (Shadows of Undrentide). The PC has the option of keeping the child, though the mother will become distraught and attack the PC; keeping the child and murdering the mother will cause an evil alignment shift.

Tynan, if he remains in the PC's inventory upon exporting the character, can be used in Hordes of the Underdark. In the second chapter, the player will encounter a beholder bridge control panel. The control panel will include a choice to "Insert Tynan"; upon doing so, two options (described as pictures) will appear. One picture is a spider and the other is a small humanoid. Choosing either option will remove Tynan from the character's inventory and replace him with Tynan's Top. This item summons permanent summoned party member once per day; the monster is either a drider or a goblin, depending on which option the player selected. Tynan will act like an familiar, in regards to unsummoning, i.e., he will not unsummon upon resting.

Notes[]

  • Tynan is horribly bugged. He does not recover hit points when resting, and leaves a corpse when he dies (which can be resurrected). He does not, however, rejoin the party when resurrected. To fix this, just leave the corpse alone and recast the summon spell again from the top.
  • The top can be used once per day, which means that after a character rests, the item can be used again. However, because Tynan is not unsummoned when the character rests, it is possible to summon more than one Tynan.
  • Tynan cannot be unsummoned via a radial menu. It seems that he was supposed to have a time limit, as the unsummoning animation will appear after a few turns, but he does not disappear.
  • Originally, Tynan could be sold to Szaren as a slave, but BioWare suppressed that dialog option due to negative feedback. (The dialog option still exists, but it never appears due to scripting.)
